An Atikokan pageant is about to become more inclusive.  The Sno-Ho Snowmobile Club has announced that its traditional winter pageant for teen girls is being changed this year to allow teen boys to run for pageant king.  Pageant organizer Stephaine Martin said Thursday that "we decided to open the pageant up for males and females this year."

Atikokan teen pageant could crown its first king- For close to 40 years the Sno-Ho Snowmobile Club in Atikokan has been running a winter pageant for teen girls. But this year, organizers decided it was time for a change. "We thought it's not fair that it's only open to girls," said organizer Stephanie Martin."It's not a beauty pageant. It's more about community involvement and gaining self-confidence, so there's no reason why guys shouldn't be able to run for the title." Martin said reaction to the change has been positive, and this year's Sno-Ho Royal Pageant (formerly the Sno-Ho Queen Pageant) is generating a lot of interest. "The community's pretty excited to see if there's going to be a king this year."

Atikokan Sno-Ho's and TBAT - It was a great day of riding snowmobiles. The weather was beautiful and the company even better. It was my pleasure to snowmobile some 100 miles to the Kashabowie Store on the Thunder Bay Adventure Trails system to meet up with the Atikokan Sno Ho Club riders. They would continue back with us to Thunder Bay and Kakabeka where they would stay over night and then return the next day to Atikokan. The goal of the ride was to raise money for the new George Jeffrey’s Treatment Centre in Thunder Bay. Read more...
